Top Ten Books I Will Finish Before the Year is Over



Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week is a freebie so I decided to list the Top Ten Books I Will Finish Before the Year is Over.

A lot of these books have been mentioned on previous lists but I am determined to get through them this year.

1.) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin-Someone gave me this book in Fall 2011 and I still haven't read it.  Luckily, it is the July pick for my book club so that motivates me to get to it sooner rather than later.
2.) Les Miserables by Victor Hugo-I plan to spend the Fall reading this.  It has been on my shelf far too long.
3.) Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett-This is another book that has been on my shelf far too long and needs to be read.  I am sure I will like it, I just have put it towards the bottom of the pile.
4.) 11/22/63 by Stephen King-I couldn't wait for this to come out.  I got it for Christmas and still have not picked it up yet.
5.) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
6.) Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn-I have heard such good things about Kate Quinn's books but I have never read them.
7.) A Problem from Hell by Samantha Power-I am fascinated by the history of genocide and have checked this book out from the library a few times but have never read it.  I am hoping to get to it before the year is over.
8.) Where Men Win Glory by John Krakauer-I have wanted to read this forever and now that I own it, I should probably go ahead and read it.
9.) Tully by Paullina Simons-I LOVED Paullina Simon's Bronze Horseman trilogy and really want to see what her other books have to offer.
10.) Cloudsplitter by Russell Banks-This book is about John Brown who is an interesting historical figure and much discussed in the part of midwest where I live.  This book got really good reviews and I am interested to see what it is all about.

Also, I hope to listen to the last 3 books in the Outlander series.  I have read them all but it was several years ago and I want to refresh my memory before the next book comes out in 2013.  I am almost done with Drums of Autumn and can't wait to get to The Fiery Cross.

    I have read the first book in Game of Thrones and still haven't picked up the 2nd. I do have to say I find the new Stephen King book intimidating because of its size! :-) Despite that though, my mom read it on her Kindle and enjoyed it a lot, so maybe using an e-reader will help? ;-)

    Everytime I plan to read some books and make a list, I can almost be certain that I'll read EVERYTHING.. except the books that I have listed there. XD Hope you'll do better than me! ROFL

    I need to read Name of the Wind and A Game of Thrones. They're on my list, but they've been there forever! I hope you love Les Mis. It's one of my very most favorite books. :D

    I just started Under The Dome by Stephen King today and it was a hard choice. It's so big!! I have been putting it off forever tho. Pillars took me a long time to get through for the same reason. Big books are heavy! But it was really good!

      I loved Under the Dome but I remember being freaked out when I first picked it up. It's huge!

    Game of Thrones is a great book and if you finish Les Miserable in just 4 months I think that's incrediable since it's over a thousand pages long and very dense.

    Pillars of the Earth, I remember lolling in bed for hours one peaceful Saturday morning. I was 28 and it was 1989. I think you (DeniseF) and your brother must have been at grandma's that day. I really loved that book. I find it funny how some things come full circle. Give it a go, I think you'll enjoy it.

    Great choices! I need to buy A Game of Thrones for my e-reader. It's been on my shelves for TEN YEARS. I kid you not. Also want to read Pillars of the Earth.

Mailbox Monday (49)

It's time for another Mailbox Monday post!  Once again I could not resist the cheap ebooks that Amazon and Barnes and Noble were promoting this week.  I really need to stop!  I already have more than I can read.  I also was able to spend a little time browsing at the library and I came home with a nice stack of books.  These days, I hardly ever get to spend time at the library by myself for more than a minute or two so it was wonderful to have time to just wander and see what I could find. Mailbox Monday (78)

 Happy Sunday everybody!  September is over and I can hardly believe it.  It seems as though the month has flown by.  Now I'm excited for fall and all of the upcoming holidays.  October is the start of my favorite time of year and I'm hoping there will be plenty of room for reading in between all of the upcoming events. I requested some new holiday books from the library and had no idea all of my holds would come in at once so I need to get moving on these.  I'm really excited to dig into some sweet, fluffy reads and these will do just the trick.
