Bookish and Not So Bookish Thoughts (3)

I'm linking with Bookishly Boisterous' "Bookish and Not So Bookish Thoughts" again this week.  Check out other posts here!

1.) I recently discovered that my local library's elibrary has gotten a whole lot better than it used to be.  It's still not great but I have found several books from my TBR list that are available to borrow in ebook format.

2.) I am seriously fighting the urge to go on a book buying spree.  Not for budgetary reasons or anything, I just don't think I need to spend money on books right now.  I love my local library and want to get back to using it again.  Why spend money when there are so many books available for free at the library?

3.) I still haven't decided what I want to do with this blog.  I have commitments scheduled for March and April but I think I'm going to leave May wide open.  I am having a hard time deciding because I am also taking a class this semester and it's taking a lot more of my time than I expected.  It's hard to decide if I have time to keep up the blog when I have other commitments to deal with first.

4.) My little Julia cut her first tooth last weekend!  I can't wait until it's all the way up because her little grin is going to be even more adorable with a tooth.

5.) I stayed up way too late last night finishing a book.  I haven't done that in a long time and it was kind of nice to have that time to myself.  I'll pay for it today but that's okay.

6.) The book I was reading was Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.  Man, I don't even know what to say about it.  It completely freaked me out and I haven't decided if I really liked it or just think it was a well-written story.  It's hard to say.

7.) My husband works graveyard shift and so I am on my own with Julia and Turbo in the mornings )(as well as all night long).  Lately, the mornings have not been going as smooth as I would like and I am kind of over it.  I shouldn't complain because it could be a whole lot worse but still.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Comments

  1. I also stated up late reading Sharp Objects. Not finished yet, but very much enjoying it! It's coming out as a movie this year, as well as Gone Girl, which I loved!

  2. I've read Gone Girl and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Apparently, I need to hurry up and read Sharp Objects, too. :)

  3. An all-nighter in the name of a good book is completely warranted on occasion!

Review and Giveaway: "Distant Signs" by Anne Richter

Synopsis: Distant Signs is an intimate portrait of two families spanning three generations amidst turbulent political change, behind and beyond the Berlin Wall. In 1960s East Germany, Margret, a professor’s daughter from the city, meets and marries Hans, from a small village in Thuringia. The couple struggle to contend with their different backgrounds, and the emotional scars they bear from childhood in the aftermath of war. As East German history gradually unravels, with collision of the personal and political, their two families’ hidden truths are quietly revealed. An exquisitely written novel with strongly etched characters that stay with you long after the book is finished and an authentic portrayal of family life behind the iron curtain based on personal experience of the author who is East German and was 16 years old at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why do families repeat destructive patterns of behaviour across generations? Should the personal take precedence over...

Mailbox Monday (49)

It's time for another Mailbox Monday post!  Once again I could not resist the cheap ebooks that Amazon and Barnes and Noble were promoting this week.  I really need to stop!  I already have more than I can read.  I also was able to spend a little time browsing at the library and I came home with a nice stack of books.  These days, I hardly ever get to spend time at the library by myself for more than a minute or two so it was wonderful to have time to just wander and see what I could find. Purchased (for kindle): The Color of Secrets by Lindsay Ashford The One I Was by Eliza Graham House of Bathory by Linda Lafferty   Purchased (for nook): One Night in Winter by Simon Sebag Montefiore  Becoming Queen Victoria by Kate Williams From the Library: The Messenger by Daniel Silva   The Ripper's Wife by Brandy Purdy Hotel Moscow by Talia Carner Brazen by Katherine Longshore What books did you get...

Mailbox Monday (78)

Happy Sunday everybody!  September is over and I can hardly believe it.  It seems as though the month has flown by.  Now I'm excited for fall and all of the upcoming holidays.  October is the start of my favorite time of year and I'm hoping there will be plenty of room for reading in between all of the upcoming events. I requested some new holiday books from the library and had no idea all of my holds would come in at once so I need to get moving on these.  I'm really excited to dig into some sweet, fluffy reads and these will do just the trick. From the Library: A Snow Country Christmas by Linda Lael Miller This is the fourth book in a series that I really enjoyed so I'm eager to get started on it. Holly and Ivy by Fern Michaels The Christmas Room by Catherine Anderson I was so intrigued by the cover on this one that I had to pick it up. For Review (from NetGalley): I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon   ...
