Bookish and Not So Bookish Thoughts (4)

1.) Julia has cut two teeth in the last two days!  This stuff happens so fast!

2.) I have the whole week off next week and I'm hoping to get some reading done.  I have 3 books to read between now and April 5 and I haven't been reading that fast lately.

3.) I'm going to experiment with a new review format.  I am not a good writer, I really struggle to write them and they are always just so forced.  I am going to try to have them be more 'me' and less what I think a 'review' should be.

4.) I think I'm going to keep this blog going a bit longer.  I'm definitely going to be a bit more discerning about review books but I'm not ready to let go yet.

5.) The weather has been gorgeous lately!  I love Spring and I'm hoping it will be a long time before Summer is here.

6.) We're going on almost 3 weeks of really bad baby sleep at my house.  People say 'it gets easier' when referring to babies but I don't know if that's true.  It just gets different.

7.) I just finished reading a book that I didn't expect much from but actually wound up loving.  I can't wait to write my review of it.  It was so good!

8.) I gave up sweets for Lent and for me that is HUGE.  I have a massive sweet tooth.  I haven't had sweets in a week, only five to go.

I hope you all have a great rest of the week!

  1. I was having a similar issue as #3 and I changed my format as well. It helped. Plus, now it acts almost as a diary. I try to incorporate what reading a certain book at a certain time meant to me, so I seeing it and reviewing and keeping track of life - it makes it feel more useful for me.

#6 - it truly amazes me what a good night's sleep can do. My son started reliably, fully sleeping through the night at about 2.5 (as in 10-12 hours at once) and I felt so much better.

(P.S. Julia is a gorgeous baby name)

    1. I'm really hoping changing things up will help! I'm not ready to get rid of the blog yet. :)

I'm glad to hear your son sleeps through the night, it gives me hope that one day I'll sleep too!

  2. I feel like there's a lot of (unnecessary) pressure in the book-blogging world for certain types of reviews. Confession: I hate reading them! It's practically blasphemous. I do a monthly round up, unless I'm obligated my a publisher. Do what you enjoy!

Review and Giveaway: "Distant Signs" by Anne Richter

Synopsis: Distant Signs is an intimate portrait of two families spanning three generations amidst turbulent political change, behind and beyond the Berlin Wall. In 1960s East Germany, Margret, a professor’s daughter from the city, meets and marries Hans, from a small village in Thuringia. The couple struggle to contend with their different backgrounds, and the emotional scars they bear from childhood in the aftermath of war. As East German history gradually unravels, with collision of the personal and political, their two families’ hidden truths are quietly revealed. An exquisitely written novel with strongly etched characters that stay with you long after the book is finished and an authentic portrayal of family life behind the iron curtain based on personal experience of the author who is East German and was 16 years old at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why do families repeat destructive patterns of behaviour across generations? Should the personal take precedence over

Mailbox Monday (49)

It's time for another Mailbox Monday post!  Once again I could not resist the cheap ebooks that Amazon and Barnes and Noble were promoting this week.  I really need to stop!  I already have more than I can read.  I also was able to spend a little time browsing at the library and I came home with a nice stack of books.  These days, I hardly ever get to spend time at the library by myself for more than a minute or two so it was wonderful to have time to just wander and see what I could find. Purchased (for kindle): The Color of Secrets by Lindsay Ashford The One I Was by Eliza Graham House of Bathory by Linda Lafferty   Purchased (for nook): One Night in Winter by Simon Sebag Montefiore  Becoming Queen Victoria by Kate Williams From the Library: The Messenger by Daniel Silva   The Ripper's Wife by Brandy Purdy Hotel Moscow by Talia Carner Brazen by Katherine Longshore What books did you get this week?

Happy Sunday everybody!  September is over and I can hardly believe it.  It seems as though the month has flown by.  Now I'm excited for fall and all of the upcoming holidays.  October is the start of my favorite time of year and I'm hoping there will be plenty of room for reading in between all of the upcoming events. I requested some new holiday books from the library and had no idea all of my holds would come in at once so I need to get moving on these.  I'm really excited to dig into some sweet, fluffy reads and these will do just the trick. From the Library: A Snow Country Christmas by Linda Lael Miller This is the fourth book in a series that I really enjoyed so I'm eager to get started on it. Holly and Ivy by Fern Michaels The Christmas Room by Catherine Anderson I was so intrigued by the cover on this one that I had to pick it up. For Review (from NetGalley): I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon     I really need to st
