The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

Sorry for so many non-bookish posts but I have to talk about my sweet Julia's birthday.  She turned two on June 28!!! I can't believe she's two already!  Julia loves the movie Frozen so her birthday party was Frozen themed.

I made her Anna and Elsa cakes and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.  I don't love Elsa (I had lots of problems with her) but I think Anna turned out pretty good!

I also ordered some really cool Frozen themed cookies from a local bakery.  They turned out great!!

We had about 10-15 kids under the age of five so I had to come up with some fun activities for them.  We had a water table and some other outside toys and I made 'snow' and homemade sidewalk paint.  They were a HUGE hit.  The kids had such a blast.  The snow was messy to make but the kids loved it!  I don't have any pictures that I can post but here is a link to the recipe I used.  I wasn't a huge fan of the sidewalk paint (it took a lot to actually be visible) but the kids loved it.  I made this recipe and it was super easy.  I was so worried that I would have a bunch of bored toddlers to contend with but they were happy as clams and Julia had the time of her life.

We got Julia an American Girl Bitty Baby for her birthday and a little doll furniture set that I picked up at Black Friday.  Note to self: don't try to set up complicated children's toys at 9:00 pm after hosting a birthday party.  My brain was shot and it took way longer than necessary.

This is what it looked like when we started.  The hubs had to finally come in and help me out because I was just making a mess.

This is the end result.  She loved it!  And the Bitty Baby is such a cute little doll.  I'm so happy we got it for her.  I was lucky to read something online that said that Bitty Baby fits into preemie size clothing so the doll already has a huge wardrobe courtesy of the Wal-Mart clearance racks.

Anyway enough babbling, I'm so glad to only have one little one because planning her birthday party was exhausting!  I don't think I could do it more than once a year!

  1. Oh my goodness! These are beautiful. I love baking, but I'm not so great with the decorating part of it. Also, I have boys so I don't get to ever use pink on a cake :)

Review and Giveaway: "Distant Signs" by Anne Richter

Synopsis: Distant Signs is an intimate portrait of two families spanning three generations amidst turbulent political change, behind and beyond the Berlin Wall. In 1960s East Germany, Margret, a professor’s daughter from the city, meets and marries Hans, from a small village in Thuringia. The couple struggle to contend with their different backgrounds, and the emotional scars they bear from childhood in the aftermath of war. As East German history gradually unravels, with collision of the personal and political, their two families’ hidden truths are quietly revealed. An exquisitely written novel with strongly etched characters that stay with you long after the book is finished and an authentic portrayal of family life behind the iron curtain based on personal experience of the author who is East German and was 16 years old at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why do families repeat destructive patterns of behaviour across generations? Should the personal take precedence over

Top Ten Books I Recommend The Most

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish . This week's topic:  Top Ten Books I Recommend the Most 1.) The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons   2.) Outlander by Diana Gabaldon           If you read my blog at all, you know I love these two books so much!  I am not afraid to suggest them to anyone who I think might enjoy them. 3.) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I was definitely recommending this book left and right when the first movie came out. 4.) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green 5.) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin           These are two books that I just recently started recommending but they are books that can appeal to anyone so they are easy picks when someone asks for a recommendation. 6.) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead  - I get a little embarrassed when I recommend this book to people but seriously, just because it has vampires does not mean it is like Twilight. 7.) The Giver by Lois
