I have a lot of reading goals for the 2015! I love the prospect of a new year and new things to work on. This year instead of setting personal resolutions, I decided to create a 'to do' list for the year. It will mostly be a work in progress throughout 2015 but will not have the pressure of an actual resolution. I always think of resolutions in that if you screw up then it's over for the year. I anticipate that I won't be perfect in regards to my 'to do' list but I definitely want to work on it through out the year.
Here are my bookish/reading goals for the year:
1.) Read 80 books-I've read approximately 80 books per year for the last two years so I think this is doable. I would love to read 100 books this year but I'm not sure if that's going to happen. I will have more time to read since I won't be taking a class this Spring (and maybe not the whole year) so we'll see how things pan out.
2.) Read 20 books I own-I really need to read more of the books I already own whether they be ebooks or physical books. Last year I only read 9, so I'm hoping to do better.
3.) Read more non-fiction books-I only read 5 non-fiction books last year. Five! I don't want to set a numbers goal for this one but I really want to read more than 5 this year. I own a ton of non-fiction books that I have yet to read so maybe I knock out this goal and goal #2 at the same time.
4.) Cut back on review books-This was my goal last year and I failed miserable at it. 42% of the books I read were review books! I would really like to cut that back to more like 25%. I already have a couple review books lined up for the year so I really need to make a conscious effort to say no more often. It's not that I don't like review books (I love them!) but they create deadlines which create stress and I don't need any added stress this year.
5.) Post more than just reviews-I'm hoping to change things up with the blog this year. I'm going to continue with reviews but I don't want the blog to just be reviews and mailbox posts. I would like to add in some variety, whether it be bookish or not. This place is getting boring!
6.) Decide what to do with the blog-I'm still struggling to decide whether or not I want to keep the blog going. I'm hoping to keep it up through May 1 and will see how things go between now and then. I'm hoping that by adding in some new content, it might help combat some of the burnout I'm feeling.
I'm not going to post everything on my 2015 'to do' list because it is sooo long but here are a few:
1.) Exercise regularly (shoot for 4 times a week)-I really miss my old pre-baby exercise routine and am hoping to create a new routine for myself. I joined the #FITREADERS and am hoping that will help me stay accountable.
2.) Eat better-This isn't so much in relation to dieting but eating healthier as in more fruits and veggies, better quality food (organic, local) and smaller portions. I definitely need/want to lose weight but I also want to change how and what I eat.
3.) Organize/Declutter my house-We moved into our house when Julia was 4 weeks old. Needless to say, I never really organized it when we moved in. As we accumulate more toys, I'd like to go through and clear out stuff we don't use, don't need, etc and get my house in good order.
4.) Save More/Spend Less-We would like to buy a house sometime in the future but really need to focus on saving for a down payment. That is one of my biggest goals for 2015.
5.) Put down the phone-Smartphones are both a blessing and a curse! I feel way too attached to mine and need to put it aside and focus on family more.
I hope you all have a wonderful new year!!

I feel the same way about review books. I love receiving them, but then they wind up being all I ever read. Plus I feel guilty about saying no to reviews and wind up reading things I probably never would have otherwise. I did decide to stop accepting reviews in the last months of my pregnancy and will say things have been a lot less stressful, at least review wise, since then.
ReplyDeleteGreat goals. I have many of the same ones, especially your eating, exercising, and organizing ones! Good luck!
