Bookish (and Not So Bookish) Thoughts (13)

Hey y'all!  I'm linking up with Bookish (And Not So Bookish) Thoughts over at Bookishly Boisterous again.

1.) Our library book sale was last weekend and I bought these Baby Sitter's Club book for 50 cents each.  Yes, I'm already hoarding books for my two year old to read when she's older.

2.) I also may have just bought a couple of the Russian language Harry Potter books on ebay.  I read the first two books in Russian and now would like to try continuing to read them to practice my Russian.  We'll see how that goes.  They were about half the price that I paid for each of the first two so it was pretty good deal.

3.) I don't know what my problem is but I haven't finished a book in like a week.  I like the books I'm reading right now, I just don't feel compelled to read.

4.) We went out for some amazing Chinese food last week and this was my fortune. I sincerely hope it comes true.  I desperately want to travel the world.

5.) I have been so lazy for the last few weeks and haven't wanted to exercise or do anything.  I really need to get back on the wagon with taking care of myself.

6.) Is it bad that I'm super excited for Christmas?  Because I am.  I always love the holidays and I can't to do all kinds of holiday stuff with Julia now that she's old enough to kind of know what's going on.

7.) One of the books I'm reading right now is called Raising Your Spirited Child.  I feel like the author wrote the book about my child.  There are even situations she describes that are exactly like things that happened to me when Julia was a baby.  It's the weirdest thing ever but I'm hopeful that it will provide me with some good tips for dealing with my child.

I hope y'all have a great week!

  1. I enjoyed your musings today. How old is your child? My babies are adults now. It happens.

    1. She's two and smack in the middle of the terrible twos. She's wonderful but also a force to be reckoned with. : )

  2. I got really excited to see that BSC club pic on your post. I started hoarding children's books for my future children before I even conceived them. My daughter is four months and has an extensive library. Hope she likes books!

  3. I would love it if Elley decide to read the BSC books when she's older. I actually still have a bunch of my favorites from the series, although if she wanted to read them all I'd need to fill in a few holes. Although I remember hearing a while back that they were publishing updated editions, changing things like private phone lines to cell phones. I'm not sure how I feel about that though, but I guess if it's a way to get kids interested...

Review and Giveaway: "Distant Signs" by Anne Richter

Synopsis: Distant Signs is an intimate portrait of two families spanning three generations amidst turbulent political change, behind and beyond the Berlin Wall. In 1960s East Germany, Margret, a professor’s daughter from the city, meets and marries Hans, from a small village in Thuringia. The couple struggle to contend with their different backgrounds, and the emotional scars they bear from childhood in the aftermath of war. As East German history gradually unravels, with collision of the personal and political, their two families’ hidden truths are quietly revealed. An exquisitely written novel with strongly etched characters that stay with you long after the book is finished and an authentic portrayal of family life behind the iron curtain based on personal experience of the author who is East German and was 16 years old at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why do families repeat destructive patterns of behaviour across generations? Should the personal take precedence over

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon           If you read my blog at all, you know I love these two books so much!  I am not afraid to suggest them to anyone who I think might enjoy them. 3.) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I was definitely recommending this book left and right when the first movie came out. 4.) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green 5.) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin           These are two books that I just recently started recommending but they are books that can appeal to anyone so they are easy picks when someone asks for a recommendation. 6.) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead  - I get a little embarrassed when I recommend this book to people but seriously, just because it has vampires does not mean it is like Twilight. 7.) The Giver by Lois

Book Blog Hop (11)

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at Crazy for Books .  It's a way to meet other bloggers and check out some cool new blogs. This week's question is:  "Highlight one book you have received this week that you can't wait to dig into!" Okay, I have a confession to make.  I have been so busy this week that I have not had time to get any new books.  I have several waiting for me at the library but I won't be able to pick them up until this weekend.  : ( Did you all get any exciting new books this week?
