Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read.
This week's question is: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?
I will read just about anything but I don't read sci-fi and high fantasy. I don't know why but I have never been able to get into those genres. If I see a cover I like and then find out it is sci-fi or high fantasy, I kind of turn my nose up at it (SORRY). It is very possible that I am missing out on some great books but so far, I am not sure.
What genre do you shy away from? And if you are a high fantasy or sci-fi fan, try to talk me into it.

I'm with you on that one. I've never really liked sci-fi, I don't know why. Not just books but movies as well - they bore me! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and you're reading Ruta's book right now, is it any good? I bought it a while ago but haven't started reading it yet.
Also, new follower! :) Come check out my Follow Friday post and my blog! :)
Lovely to meet you,

So far I think that we are on the same page: Historical Fiction and Classics = thumbs up. Sci-fi and Fantasy = thumbs down.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed a gender difference in these preferences though? Do the first two genres seem female, and the last two male? Wonder why?
ALSO, here is the exception to the rule(!) My then 16yo son REALLY got into the "Sword of Truth" (fantasy) series by Terry Goodkind. He asked me three or four times to read along so I kind of HAD to... I ended up really liking them! LOL! They were kind of like page-turners from the Middle Ages or something...

**ducking** British Victorian female writers, I.e. Jane Austen & the Bronte sisters . . . Gag.
ReplyDeleteNot a huge sci-fi fan, especially the wild space alien, futuristic stuff, although I wonder if The Hunger Games counts as Sci-fi, loved that series.
