Top Ten Tips for New Book Bloggers

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic:  Top Ten Tips for New Book Bloggers

I still consider myself to be very new at blogging. My blog is almost a year old but I feel like I still have a ton to learn.  I can't wait to see what everyone's tips and here a few that I have learned along the way.

1.) Participate in Memes- This was something I did from the very beginning and it really helped me find cool blogs that I could watch and learn from.

2.) Blogging takes a lot of time- Yes, reading takes time but writing reviews, following other blogs, participating in memes, and updating your blog takes a TON of time.  I wish I had as much time to devote to my blog as I would like.

3.) Schedule posts- It took me a long time to use this functionality.  When you have some free time, write up some posts that you can schedule for a week or a month.  I feel a lot less stressed about my blog when I know I have things scheduled for a few days.

4.) Netgalley is your friend-Take advantage of netgalley.  It is a great place to start getting review copies of books.

5.) Participate in Challenges, Readalongs, etc-These are really fun ways to get to know other bloggers and usually these help to take a chunk out of your TBR pile.

6.) Followers aren't everything- I appreciate my followers so much but it took me a while to figure out that the number of followers you have isn't the most important part of your blog.  Don't whore your blog out just so that number is super high.  I definitely think that when it comes to followers, quality is more important than quantity.  I may not have a lot of followers but the ones I have are AWESOME!

7.) It's supposed to be fun!- I really enjoy blogging but right now I have kind of been on a break (life has gotten in the way) and haven't been blogging as much.  When it stops being fun, take a break and come back to it.

That's all I have this week.  What tips do you have?  Leave me a link in the comments so I can stop by!

  7. Over at "Hippies, Beauty, and Books. Oh My!" we incorporate a lot of these. We have only been running since last June but have grown exponentially beyond our beliefs. And I have to say, your tips are right on.

We follow Memes all the time. Originally it was to help build traffic. but it turned into something more fun. It's neat seeing what others are saying and having that dialogue starter to be able to converse with other bloggers.

Traffic is not everything. We do have a lot of followers over at our little site. But to be honest, my wife and I hardly ever notice. What we do notice is the return readers and the familiar names in the comments section. Those comments have been very gratifying to us.

And most importantly, scheduling is HUGE! We never have enough time to get done what we want to get done. That blog has turned into a full time job with my wife spending more then 30+ hours a week and me more then 20+ hours a week on it. The reviews we can almost never stay on top of. We have so many books coming in it's difficult. When I have down time at work I get a few general articles written and get them scheduled. Let me tell you, stumbling and news sites have become great inspiration for opinion pieces.

Review and Giveaway: "Distant Signs" by Anne Richter

Synopsis: Distant Signs is an intimate portrait of two families spanning three generations amidst turbulent political change, behind and beyond the Berlin Wall. In 1960s East Germany, Margret, a professor’s daughter from the city, meets and marries Hans, from a small village in Thuringia. The couple struggle to contend with their different backgrounds, and the emotional scars they bear from childhood in the aftermath of war. As East German history gradually unravels, with collision of the personal and political, their two families’ hidden truths are quietly revealed. An exquisitely written novel with strongly etched characters that stay with you long after the book is finished and an authentic portrayal of family life behind the iron curtain based on personal experience of the author who is East German and was 16 years old at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why do families repeat destructive patterns of behaviour across generations? Should the personal take precedence over

Top Ten Books I Recommend The Most

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish . This week's topic:  Top Ten Books I Recommend the Most 1.) The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons   2.) Outlander by Diana Gabaldon           If you read my blog at all, you know I love these two books so much!  I am not afraid to suggest them to anyone who I think might enjoy them. 3.) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I was definitely recommending this book left and right when the first movie came out. 4.) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green 5.) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin           These are two books that I just recently started recommending but they are books that can appeal to anyone so they are easy picks when someone asks for a recommendation. 6.) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead  - I get a little embarrassed when I recommend this book to people but seriously, just because it has vampires does not mean it is like Twilight. 7.) The Giver by Lois

Book Blog Hop (11)

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at Crazy for Books .  It's a way to meet other bloggers and check out some cool new blogs. This week's question is:  "Highlight one book you have received this week that you can't wait to dig into!" Okay, I have a confession to make.  I have been so busy this week that I have not had time to get any new books.  I have several waiting for me at the library but I won't be able to pick them up until this weekend.  : ( Did you all get any exciting new books this week?
